There are a couple things I know a lot about, a few things I know something about, and a whole lot of things I know very little about, but I have wondered about them. When reading over the article from The Dessert Sun, “Federal Funding Sends 540 Million to Fix Sinking California Water Canals” in Global Auto Mobility and reporting on it in the Smart Mobility podcast, I learned more about something I have thought about.

What happens when you continually pump water from an aquifer? The ground eventually sinks permanently reducing the capacity of the aquifer. This article describes the role that increased population, agriculture needs, and nature through droughts, has played in the water security of the west coast of the U.S.

Once again I know a little more at the end of the day than I did this morning.

Read about this and more at Global Auto Mobility or catch the companion podcast at Smart Mobility Today on your favorite streaming service. Maybe you’ll learn something too.
