Norway may offer one of the best glimpses at what happens when a country’s automotive market turns significantly in the direction of electric vehicles, with all the attendant perks and problems. The country’s EV sales as a percentage of all car sales reached 86% in 2021, making Norway the global leader on that metric, followed, at 72%, by Iceland, then 43% in Sweden and 35% in Denmark.

The U.S. is nearly dead last at just over 5%.

Actor Will Ferrell made clear how dominant Norway had grown in this area during Super Bowl LV in 2021, with this commercial:

President Joe Biden is aiming for 50% of all new-automobile sales falling into the electric category by 2030.
