We have all heard by now the number of drones that were confiscated by the FBI during the FIFA World cup; over 700. The total amount in air at the 11 stadiums was closer to 1700. That’s a lot of unauthorized flight. I am not wild about the idea of looking out of my home’s windows to see the electronic eye of a drone staring back, but these are all the scary stories you hear, and the places and occasions where a drone does not belong.

Months ago at a city meeting, our Police Chief described the new inclusion of drones in our city, deployed only by a police pilot and only in response to an incident. The drones travel with cameras up, and only focus down when at their destination. They give police and firefighters a preview of what they are dealing with, and can better prepare  to handle what awaits.

There is an article about this very technology being deployed in the city of Kalamazoo. I believe this is a great use of drones in the proper hands. Just ask any mom or dad of a cop or firefighter.
