In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter filed with the state, Natron Energy, Inc. said it is closing both its manufacturing plant at 70 W. 48th St. near I-196 in Holland and its facility in California.

A total of 95 employees, including 37 in Michigan, will be laid off as the company prepares to close, the WARN letter says.

The letter, which was filed with the state Aug. 28, noted that up until the day before, the company had been seeking the business it would need to stay open.

“Natron is providing this notice to you as soon as practicable,” the letter says. “Natron was unable to provide 60 days’ advance notice of the plant closure because as of August 27, 2025, Natron was actively seeking both capital and commercial business which would have enabled it to at least postpone the closure for a reasonable time period or even to entirely avoid the closure. Natron management has openly communicated with employees about fundraising efforts and the risks if they were not successful.”

The company noted its efforts included looking for investment and financing opportunities and trying to get more purchase orders. Its board of directors “reasonably and in good faith” believed the company would be able to stay open.
