GM decided back in 2015 to build electrified vehicles from the ground up. Simcoe personally oversaw the many changes to vehicle interiors that a new powertrain afforded, including freeing up space between the front row seats and moving key features to the steering column.

Ten years later, GM offers the largest selection of EVs in the market even while continuing to win awards for internal combustion offerings. Vehicle production cycles take years, during which pivotal political, economic, environmental, social and fashion trends inevitably change. Companies like GM face challenges that up-and-comers to automotive design do not: namely, how to preserve a legacy while moving into the future.
