Earlier this week, Austin-based company Campus Guardian Angel, testified in favor of SB 1262.

The bill would modify the current law, which requires schools to have armed officers unless they file for an exception due to a lack of funding or difficulties filling the position.

One of the security solutions offered was the use of Campus Guardian Angels drone technology in schools.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Justin Marston, says their goal is to bridge the gap between when an on-campus threat is identified and when law enforcement arrives.

“We place these drones in boxes across the school ahead of time,” said Marston.

“They are then remotely piloted by our world-class drone pilots based in Austin from our operations center. Our goal is to respond in 5 seconds, confront the shooter in 15 seconds, then degrade or incapacitate the shooter in 60 seconds.”

The drones are equipped with deterrents such as cameras, stun devices, pepper guns, and a kinetic energy hit that is meant to slow down the suspect before officers arrive.
