The rapid development and business adoption of artificial intelligence tools don’t leave employees with many options for embracing the tech as part of their jobs. But while new survey data from consultancy PwC shows most workers are indeed increasing their usage of AI, it also finds that the ways they’re doing so is starting to break members of the same workplaces into contrasting groups—and accentuating differences between them.

The divisions arising from how workers are variously using AI—and the problems those could create—were revealed in PwC’s 2026 Global Workforce Hopes and Fears Survey. Replies from the 49,364 workers in 48 countries who participated showed that the majority of employees have understood that companies want staff to automate tasks using bots, and are doing that at increasing rates. As a result, 64 percent of respondents reported using the tech within the last year—up from 64 percent in 2025—with daily usage of generative AI rising eight points to 22 percent.
