Three former SpaceX engineers are opening an automated steel fabrication factory in Cincinnati.
1872, the engineers’ startup, recently announced the factory launch after securing $15 million in seed funding through private funds advised by The O.H.I.O. Fund. According to the investment fund adviser, this represents one of the largest amounts secured in seed funding round in Ohio history.
Through AI-native manufacturing, 1872 founders Dan Summers, Michael Grant and Brian Mongilio plan to automate heavy fabrication in industries that traditionally rely on manual labor. The 1872 model creates a closed-loop system utilizing AI software and robots to streamline manufacturing, cutting costs and production timelines.
