A US mining technology company has announced plans to open an Advanced Marine Robotics Hub in Pennsylvania to develop the next generation of autonomous marine systems for deep-sea collection of critical minerals. The new facility by Impossible Metals will bring together roboticists, autonomy engineers, and marine systems specialists while creating more than a dozen high-paying engineering and science jobs.
The company aims to collaborate with local universities and researchers to strengthen US capabilities in marine robotics and critical mineral technologies.
“This isn’t one machine picking up rocks. It’s swarms of autonomous robots, precision-harvesting in parallel while leaving the ecosystem intact, producing the lowest-cost critical metals on Earth. That capability is built here, in Pittsburgh,” said Mike Regan, Chief Growth Officer at Impossible Metals, in a statement.
