A few years back on a family excursion, we spent the morning at the Kellogg Biological Station-W.K. Kellogg Farm Pasture Dairy Center in Kalamazoo County, MI. I stood mesmerized as the cows filed in at their own leisure to the automatic milking stations; no stress, no prodding, not a milkmaid in sight.
Now the people at the University of Arkansas are making the lives of domestic herds better yet. They have devised a tool that can read a cow’s temperature by capturing an image of its face. It’s less work for the farmer and a lot less taxing on the animals.
