My mom had a love of star gazing. As a child, I recall she would walk out our west side Detroit bungalow and traverse the narrow strip of concrete that led along the space between our single-car detached garage, past the swing set and the tomato patch, and lean against the back fence and stare up. Sometimes, I would find her on a swing just looking skyward.

Although I am the first to celebrate a new and beneficial breakthrough for mankind, I grew solemn this week as I read about the new AST SpaceMobile communication satellite called BlueBird 6.

Spanning some 2400 square feet when fully open, its array is the square foot equivalent of my sister’s suburban two-story colonial. Astronomists believe it and others soon to be deployed will change our night sky and an astronomer’s view forever.

I hope research, innovation, desire and pure brain power can soon prevent the need to change a night sky that belongs to every person on earth.

To make up your own mind and to find out about these and other innovations directly affecting our lives, check out Global Auto Mobility or catch the companion podcast at Smart Mobility Today on your favorite streaming service.
