General Motors’ Super Cruise driver-assistance system currently allows for hands-free driving in certain conditions. In 2028, the company plans to introduce an eyes-off version of Super Cruise that will allow the driver to look away from the road to watch TV or look at their phone when the system is activated.
GM says the eyes-off driving mode will launch in the Escalade IQ full-size electric SUV and then propagate to other models in the lineup. GM CEO Mary Barra said that the rollout of the eyes-off version of Super Cruise would be faster than the hands-free system, which initially launched in the Cadillac CT6 before expanding to numerous other vehicles across the Chevrolet, GMC, and Buick brands.
