In a move that solidifies Detroit’s commitment to revamping its transportation infrastructure, Michigan Central Station is set to become the nexus for a new transportation hub. According to a joint statement from Michigan Central, the City of Detroit, and the Michigan Department of Transportation, revealed byĀ WWJ Newsradio 950, a memorandum of understanding has been signed, pooling $40 million for preliminary research and engineering for the project.

The development, slated for completion by 2029, promises to enhance the city’s connectivity, with Amtrak service linking Detroit to Windsor and Toronto, reportedĀ CBS Detroit, the improved transportation options are not only about getting people from point A to B but also strengthening the socioeconomic tapestry through commerce and relationships. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer expressed optimism for a thriving downtown Detroit while discussing the plan, which aligns with the growth in southwest Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood.
