American manufacturers are showing signs of struggles hanging onto employees with tariffs increasing the cost of doing business and uncertainty lingering over the economy putting many companies in difficult decisions on how to adjust to a new environment and an uneven rollout causing confusion and putting investments on hold.
The U.S. lost 12,000 manufacturing jobs in August; the fourth consecutive month the sector has posted a loss. Overall, the industry has shed 42,000 jobs since April when President Donald Trump announced his “Liberation Day” tariffs targeting much of the world.
