A new kind of officer is patrolling the streets of Dublin, and it’s rolling on wheels. The City of Dublin has introduced two AI-powered security robots as part of a two-year pilot program aimed at enhancing public safety in high-traffic areas. The units are currently patrolling Riverside Crossing Park and the Rock Cress Parking Garage, located near the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Dublin branch in Historic Dublin.
Developed by California-based company Knightscope, the autonomous robots are packed with technology, including 360-degree cameras, two-way emergency communication, flashing lights, and audio announcements. They’re designed to serve as additional eyes and ears in public spaces, not to replace officers.
“I think people are excited to see the adoption of technology incorporated into the police department and various other sectors of the city to make it a safer, more enjoyable place for our community members,” said Officer Joshua Kirby of the Dublin Police Department.
