My Dad was an engineer at his day job for GM, and it spilled over to his home life and on to me. As his retirement neared, he decided he needed a good hobby to keep busy and sharp. So he built his own Ham radio station, and I’m not talking just about the desk (which was a door).
I loved watching his skill soldering all the colorful transistors and receivers securely in their spots. To me, they were magic M&M’s that somehow did something and allowed him to talk to the world.
This week’s story in Global Auto Mobility and on the Smart Mobility Today podcast on the evolution of transistors, specifically the “Superlattice Castellated Field Effect Transistor”, made me wish I could see the wonder in his eyes at the progress of technology and the improved communication it provides. He would love it!
