An Austin-based tech company is joining forces with a California firm working to bring air taxis to Texas skies.

SkyGrid, developed by Austin’s SparkCognition and Boeing in 2018, has become a subsidiary of Wisk Aero. Both companies are owned by Boeing.

SkyGrid specializes in airspace integration technology, helping pilotless aircraft safely share the skies. Now, it will help Wisk bring its autonomous electric air taxis to market.

Wisk plans to launch its first commercial air taxi service in the Houston metro area within the next decade.

The aircraft can carry four passengers up to 100 miles at a cost similar to an Uber ride.
