More than 50 supporters packed a lively and space-themed decorated room on WCC’s campus ahead of the brief tourism launch of Blue Origin’s NS-31 mission, which included Bowe, a former scientist at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and a 2003 graduate of Ann Arbor’s Pioneer High School.

Crystal Lyte, a Wastenaw Community College alumna, and her 6-year-old daughter Charleigh Lyte, who sat in her mother’s lap, watched as the shuttle lifted off with a fiery blast and climbed into the blue sky on the giant video screen above them. A cutout of Bowe in her NASA uniform stood nearby.
