Later this year the Houston-based Bot Auto plans to launch a full-scale pilot program on another route, setting its sights on the equally busy stretch between Houston and San Antonio—a distance of 200 miles.

This means the company’s SAE Level 4 hardware and software systems, fitted to Freightliner semitrucks, are about to see very real cargo being transported by a truck with no one behind the wheel.

This upcoming deployment phase between the two cities will run for at least four months and will be followed by system upgrades based on the experience accumulated by the trucks and remote monitoring systems.

“Since our successful hub-to-hub demonstration last October, our team has focused on building a reliable system with enhanced hardware and software redundancies,” said Xiaodi Hou, Bot Auto founder and CEO.
