The San Antonio Police Department plans to spend funds on Tesla and Ford electric vehicles to see if they can handle police work.
The city council approved contracts with Ford and Tela totaling over $121,000 for a Ford Mustang Mach-E and 2022 Tesla Model Y Long Range. They will be tested by SAPD to see if they are suited for “law enforcement use” in the fleet, according to agenda documents.
District 1 Councilman Mario Bravo applauded the purchase, wishing that the city could move fast in the direction of using electric vehicles.
“This is progress,” Bravo said. “And I look forward to seeing how these test vehicles work out for SAPD.”
