Imagine the creation of a greenfield manufacturing facility with no IT infrastructure and after only 18 months, runs on a digital platform with completely paperless production in its core manufacturing processes. If you think this sounds unrealistic, think again. Smart Press Shop GmbH & Co. KG, a joint venture launched by Porsche and Schuler, created this exact greenfield factory in Germany, using Industry 4.0 as a key enabler which won them a SAP Innovation Award. Here’s how they did it.

Running on 100% modern cloud architecture

Smart Press Shop banked on a cloud-first development strategy, building core enterprise resource planning (ERP) and manufacturing execution systems (MES) that enabled them to fully digitalize production processes from start to finish by using 100% green energy.

Due to COVID-19 regulations, all the systems had to be deployed and fully tested remotely in a collaborative environment. After detailed research, the company decided to implement a single-source system that enables them to run on a 100% cloud-first software-as-a-service platform.
