Our society is in the midst of a once-in-a-century mobility revolution and this past year will be remembered as a landmark year for the state of Michigan.

To meet the urgency and ambition of our automotive partners — who stepped up with billions of dollars in new investment to support electric vehicle adoption and thousands of Michigan jobs — our state’s leaders worked across government, academia and the industry at new speeds, developing new policies and programs to futureproof our economy, and grow Michigan’s influence on the future of mobility.

In 2021, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced several first-of-their-kind initiatives, including America’s first public road that will safely charge vehicles as they are in motion and the first innovation lab exclusively focused on the future for parking: the Detroit Smart Parking Lab.

The State of Michigan also looked to reinvent the American road trip in 2021, making it more sustainable through a new and signature route for electric vehicles to be built out along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
