A recent analysis from the experts at Gartner projected that only around 10% of enterprise-generated data is currently processed outside of a traditional data center or cloud. However, by 2025, they predict that this number will reach 75%. To make this prediction a reality, it will take a massive expansion of edge computing.
But for many organizations, especially in the industrial space, edge computing is still unfamiliar and untested.
For those who need a point of reference, edge computing allows for the shifting of Internet of Things computing from the cloud to the “edge” layer which is closer to the point where the data is generated – therefore improving response times and saving bandwidth.
So, naturally, the question is: what’s propelling adoption of this relatively new technology so rapidly forward?
