It’s not a common occurrence to find yourself contemplating the same news two weeks in a row when dealing in the fast-paced engineering world of the auto industry, but that is exactly the situation I find myself in this week.

GM announced yesterday that it is delaying the rollout of their autonomous taxis, a division of Cruise, their self-driving unit.

Somehow, I was not surprised. It makes sense that there will be significant technological hurdles to surmount before the safety of our Jetsons lifestyle becomes common place. Bumps in the road and the inconsistent driving of those of us very much behind our wheels is a major headache for engineers developing the systems in self driving cars.
